Told in alternating perspectives among three girls--Valentina and Oksana in 1986 and Rifka in 1941--this story shows that hatred, intolerance, and oppression are no match for the power of true friendship.

Storyglory Cautions: Not for sensitive readers, as one of the two protagonists is a victim of domestic violence which is described in some painful scenes, some characters reference and have obvious addiction to alcohol, and parent death occurs.
